Principal Engineer - Process Safety, is a subject matter expert in
Process Safety Management. Persons in this role must possess deep
technical knowledge of process safety as it applies to
pharmaceutical manufacturing. This role is responsible for
maintaining the API EM Process Safety Management Oversight program
as applied to CMO's. Key Responsibilities Own Globally Integrated
Process Safety Management program at APIEM, including site program
owner of several PSM programs. Serve as the liaison for API EM and
Global HSE on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) and process
safety management (PSM) oversight at the relevant contract
manufacturing sites. Leverage internal Lilly experts in HSE and PSM
to ensure appropriate risk reduction at CMs. Participate in Lilly
HSE and PSM audits of contract manufacturing sites as applicable.
Maintain key HSE and PSM metrics for review within API EM. Own
activities which ensure appropriate oversight of compliance and
continuous improvement to Process Safety regulations, standards,
systems, and programs e.g. Seveso, ATEX. Provide specialist advice
to management and IPT by interpreting process safety legislation,
corporate standards, policies, and industry guidance. Provide
process safety technical expertise to operations, new product
introductions, emergency response, maintenance, engineering, and
site projects. Provide process safety technical support and
expertise to process teams, support incident follow-up,
non-routine/troubleshooting activity, change controls and pre-start
up safety reviews. Support oversight of third-party Process Hazard
Reviews, Mechanical Integrity programs for process safety devices,
process safety information (PSI) generation (e.g., chemical
reactivity, equipment design information, safe operating limits)
and other process safety studies completion to meet project and
compliance schedules. Complete and review process safety
engineering calculations and models when applicable. Utilize root
cause analysis techniques to investigate issues and deliver robust
and sustainable corrective and preventative actions. Develop &
deliver high quality process safety and emergency response training
and communications. Ensure a safe working environment by
following/improving safety rules and supporting a mature safety
culture with integrated safety practices and open safety
conversations. Support site audits and self-assessments, management
reviews and external regulatory audits Drive implementation of site
process safety initiatives. Complete site performance metric
reviews and analysis Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in
Chemical Engineering/Process Engineer or relevant Chemistry,
Engineering or STEM Discipline Minimum of 5 years
engineering/science/leadership experience in manufacturing
Attributes for the Role Deep technical interest and understanding
in the field of chemical engineering/chemistry in particular strong
technical understanding of process safety , basis of safety and
risk assessment and an ability to react appropriately. Possess a
keen technical curiosity and a desire for continuous improvement .
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills . Excellent attention
to detail and accuracy in execution. Ability to work on own
initiativ e and as part of a cross-functional team consisting of a
diverse group of management, production, compliance, science, and
engineering professionals. Demonstrated ability to participate in,
influence and facilitate decision-making . Demonstrated ability to
guide / mentor of others through processes. Demonstrated
initiative, good planning and organizational skills , ability to
priorities tasks, combined with tenacity/initiative to drive tasks
to completion within schedule and work proactively without direct
supervision. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication
skills. Competent IT skills and knowledge of standard software
packages and electronic business systems. Other Information: The
normal schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8 hours/day.
However, teleconferences may routinely occur outside of these hours
due to the time zones of contract manufacturers. OUS travel may
routinely be required to support process start-ups,
troubleshooting, and commercial manufacturing. This travel is
typically in the range of 15% to 25% annually, depending on the
needs of the process(es). Must complete assigned training
curriculum. No certifications required. Tasks require entering
manufacturing and laboratory areas and will require wearing

on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic
location. The anticipated wage for this position is $64,500 -
$167,200 Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a
company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual
