The Director of Nursing is a senior clinical leader responsible for overseeing nursing operations and nursing practice standards across the JPCHC network. Reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer, this role provides leadership to Regional Nurse Administrators and Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs) and drives the development of clinical protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and nursing workforce development programs. While not directly supervising CMAs and LPNs, this position has significant influence over the workflows, standards, and clinical processes that impact nursing and clinical support teams across the organization. The Director of Nursing partners closely with executive leadership, medical directors, practice administrators, and quality leaders to advance patient-centered care, regulatory compliance, and Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) excellence. Key Responsibilities Clinical Nursing Leadership Provide strategic and operational oversight for nursing services across all JPCHC sites. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, protocols, and evidence-based practice standards. Ensure compliance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, OSHA, HIPAA, HRSA, FTCA, and accreditation requirements. Serve as the nursing subject matter expert for complex clinical and practice questions. Evaluate and optimize nursing care delivery models to improve efficiency and patient outcomes. Lead nursing competency development and performance improvement initiatives. Quality & Performance Improvement Partner with the Director of Quality and Population Health to lead nursing-related quality initiatives. Monitor nursing-sensitive metrics, clinical quality measures, and patient safety indicators. Lead care gap closure initiatives and support population health management efforts. Develop auditing processes to ensure documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance. Conduct and lead root cause analyses for patient safety events. Represent nursing leadership in organizational quality committees. Nursing Workforce Development Supervise and mentor Regional Nurse Administrators. Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of nursing staff. Conduct performance evaluations and leadership development planning. Partner with the Manager of Clinical Education (dotted-line relationship) to align nursing education and competency validation programs. Implement preceptorship and professional development pathways. Foster a culture of nursing excellence, accountability, and continuous learning. Strategic Partnership & Operations Collaborate with Group Practice Directors, Medical Directors, Practice Administrators, and executive leadership to ensure integrated care delivery. Lead nursing participation in PCMH and Medical Neighborhood initiatives. Develop and manage nursing department budgets and staffing models. Represent nursing leadership in community and regional healthcare collaborations. Serve as liaison between nursing teams and executive leadership. Patient Advocacy & Care Coordination Champion compassionate, culturally competent, patient-centered care. Oversee triage protocols, care coordination processes, and transitions of care. Monitor and improve patient experience metrics related to nursing services. Address patient concerns related to nursing care in a timely and professional manner. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight Ensure nursing practice compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation requirements. Prepare nursing teams for surveys, audits, and accreditation reviews. Oversee licensure, credentialing, and privileging of nursing staff. Lead incident reporting review and corrective action planning. Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program Current, unrestricted Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license Minimum 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience Minimum 3 years of experience in ambulatory care, primary care, or community health Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association) Preferred Qualifications Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Master's in Healthcare Administration or related field Nursing leadership certification (NE-BC, CENP, or similar) Experience in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) or PCMH environment Knowledge of HRSA compliance and UDS reporting Experience in population health, chronic disease management, and care coordination Experience with quality improvement methodologies (PDSA, Lean, Six Sigma) What We Offer: Highly competitive and comprehensive medical, dental, vision, benefit plans Generous paid time off, including vacation and sick time 401(k) with a 6% contribution Life and Disability insurance plan Join a mission-driven organization where your work supports community wellness and expands equitable access to care.
