JOB SUMMARY The Industrial Welder is responsible for facilitating welding projects on draglines, shovels and related industrial manufacturing equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform crack repairs on structure thicknesses from up to 6 steel and castings. Weld on a minimum of 2 thick metal using .052 wire. Perform air arcing process to repair cracks and back gouge. Monitor the welding process to avoid overheating. Calculate dimensions to be welded. Read and understand welding blueprints, sketches or specifications. Apply weld repairs to fill holes, indentations or seams of metal products. Install and dismantle machines and other industrial manufacturing equipment according to blueprints and layout plans. Repair machinery and other various heavy equipment used in industrial and manufacturing environments. Operate and maintain heavy equipment; Repair and rebuild machinery. Prepare and perform heavy structural welding repairs. Audit equipment for potential repairs. Trouble shoot welding projects and identify welding equipment needed to complete jobs. Create and facilitate projects to completion including any related paperwork or service reports. Communicate plans and projects effectively to other employees, training them if necessary. Safely use rigging and lifting equipment. Maintain the highest standards in regard to quality of workmanship. Extensive travel and overnight stays out of state are likely. Assist in facilitating projects to completion including completion of all related documentation and service reports as directed. Plan, organize and facilitate jobs as assigned to the welding department including print reading and interpretation. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Assist in special projects, as needed. Answer telephone calls, complete service reports and maintain records as required. Provide input to estimate job requirements. Actively participate and/or lead safety meetings. Provide daily progress updates to supervisor and dispatchers. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of five (5) years experience in the trade. Knowledgeable in various areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, bushings, and hydraulics. Proficient in layout, fit-up and fabrication. Possess and maintain certifications in FCAW, SMAW and GMAW processes of at least, but not limited to 80,000 psi and 70,000 psi tensile strength materials. Understand and utilize tools for set up and layout work. Proficient with hand and automatic torches, MIG, TIG, and Brazing, Automatic welding, rotators, Bug-O track equipment, etc. Familiar with N.D.T. including U.T. and M.T. Proficient in bore build-up, structural repair, and crack repair. Able to run sub-arc when required. Able to perform light machining, utilizing drills, taps, etc. Proficient in welding and cutting of all types. Proficient understanding of metallurgy and its application to welding. Possess appropriate personal tools per the Welder Tool List. PREFERRED Technical school or on-the-job training. Courses in blueprint reading, shop mathematics, mechanical drawing, physics, chemistry and metallurgy. Understanding of electricity. Certified Welding Inspector. PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS Prolonged walking, sitting and standing Use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation Working in elevated position, climbing, bending, stooping and squatting Walking on un-level ground with many slip, trip and fall hazards Adverse weather conditions, i.e., water, mud, etc. Exposed to extreme temperatures, dirt, grease, dust, noise and other elements within the work environment Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
