Summary

THIS IS AN INDIANA NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION

This position is in the Excepted Service "under the authority of Title V, P.L. 114-328, Sections 932 and 1084 (FY17 NDAA)

This position is part of the IN 181st Intelligence Wing, Indiana National Guard under Position Description Number T5821400.

    Duties
    • Performs as the Team Technical Lead during vulnerability assessments of DoD information systems.
    • Conducts extensive research of new vulnerabilities discovered in operating systems, application software, infrastructure and firewalls.
    • Performs information operations that protect and defend (or assess the capability to protect and defend) information and information systems by ensuring their availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation.
    • Analyzes equipment and software reliability and suitability for vulnerability assessment utilization.
    • Consults with subordinates, supervisors, specialists, vendors, and sister IO squadrons to procure and maintain training range devices.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

      • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

      • The incumbent of this position description must have at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
      • Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
      • The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.

        Qualifications

        This position conducts information assurance functions. The incumbent shall comply with the requirements of the certification program and will be required to obtain and maintain certification. Certification requirements are outlined in DoD Instruction 8570.01-M

        To ensure compliance with an applicable nationwide preliminary injunction, which may be supplemented, modified, or vacated, depending on the course of ongoing litigation, the Federal Government will take no action to implement or enforce the COVID-19 vaccination requirement pursuant to Executive Order 14043 on Requiring Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination for Federal Employees. Therefore, to the extent a federal job announcement includes the requirement that applicants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 pursuant to Executive Order 14043, that requirement does not currently apply. Federal agencies may request information regarding the vaccination status of selected applicants for the purposes of implementing other workplace safety protocols, such as protocols related to masking, physical distancing, testing, travel, and quarantine.

        GENERAL EXPERIENCE:For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.         3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

        4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

        SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:At least one year of specialized experience at the next lower GS-grade (or equivalent). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT. The employing agency is responsible for defining the specialized experience based on the requirements of the position being filled.

        Education

        Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

        or

        3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

        OR The specialized experience listed above.
