Job Description Job Description Primary Job Title: Lab Assistant Alternate / Related Job Titles: • Laboratory Assistant • Clinical Lab Assistant • Specimen Processing Technician • Medical Laboratory Support Associate Location & Onsite Flexibility: Indianapolis, IN — Onsite Work Location: Community Heart and Vascular Hospital (Indianapolis, IN) Contract Details Position Type: Contract Start: As Soon As Possible Job Description The Lab Assistant performs routine laboratory support activities to assist professional laboratory staff and ensure efficient specimen processing and testing operations. This role supports production by completing tasks with precision and accuracy while following all safety and quality standards. Daily responsibilities include sorting and receiving specimens, centrifuging samples, printing and managing labels, recording temperature and QA/QC data, and handling specimen storage and retrieval. The Lab Assistant prepares reagents and media, builds worklists, aliquots specimens, checks samples for clots or fibrin, and assists with slide preparation and inoculation. Additional duties include resolving pending lists, locating missing samples, decontaminating work areas, disposing of biohazardous materials , performing weekly radioactive wipe tests, changing gas cylinders, and maintaining departmental records. The role requires consistent use of PPE, adherence to safety regulations, and use of laboratory computer systems and PCs. Education • High School Diploma or equivalent • Medical Assistant training helpful • Math and science coursework preferred Required Skills & Attributes Required Skills: • Ability to perform routine laboratory support functions accurately • Ability to manage multiple tasks and establish work priorities • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy • Professional communication and collaboration with coworkers and customers Preferred Skills: • Medical assistant or laboratory exposure • Familiarity with specimen processing workflows Additional Skills: • Ability to retain and apply learned information • Comfort using laboratory computer systems and PCs • Commitment to safety, PPE usage, and regulatory compliance Experience Requirements • No prior work experience required Work Schedule • Monday – Friday | 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM • Potential weekend rotation based on operational need • Candidate will work every other weekend and receive a weekday off following worked weekends • Training will occur on day shift , possibly 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Benefits • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance Plans • 401(k) Retirement Fund About the Company A leading provider of diagnostic information services dedicated to empowering healthier lives.
